Grasslands of the Wimmera - conserving endangered species. Sat 1 August

Join us for talks on the conservation of grasslands in the Wimmera, with a focus on the critically endangered Spiny Rice-flower (Pimelea spinescens).

The event will begin at 10am at NC2, 62 Main Street, Natimuk, with expert lectures from Dr. Debbie Reynolds, Pauline Rudolph & Maree Goods. Morning tea and lunch will be provided, followed by a short field trip to observe local grasslands in action!

Our guest speakers:

Maree Goods is a part of the Wimmera Growers of Australian Plants (WGAP), the local division of the Australian Plants Society. Maree's presentation will focus on "Grassland Species within the Conserving Wimmera Rarity Project".

Dr. Debbie Reynolds completed her PhD on Pimelea spinescens. Debbie's presentation will focus on "Distribution, ecology and germination of Pimelea spinescens".

Pauline Rudolph works as the Manager, Environmental Values at the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA). Pauline's presentation is titled "The Potted History of Pimelea spinescens subsp. pubiflora”.

Our MC will be local grassland ecologist and Horsham District Landcare Network President Dr. Joshua Hodges, who will also introduce the Wimmera grasslands, "Wimmera's rarest ecosystem".



This event is part of our "Grasslands close to extinction: engaging Landcare communities to save the Wimmera's rarest ecosystem" project and is supported by Wimmera CMA and DEECA through the Victorian Landcare Grants.
